Even the largest crop breeding companies are wondering how to meet demands for food supply given a projected 25% increase in global population over the next 30 years. How can we do it sustainably without destroying more land?
The Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Plant Success in Nature & Agriculture will produce technology to enable existing and emerging crop industries to rise and meet this challenge. They focus on the mechanisms of how plants adapt to their environment in natural and crop systems and of how the genetics and physiology of plants combine to impact plant resilience, yield and fitness.
Centre Director, Professor Christine Beveridge joined BrisScience in April 2021, to discuss how the Centre for Plant Success will produce much-needed technology, simplifying the highly complex problem of predicting plant performance.
