WOX out, those teeth are sharp!
Abstract
WUSCHEL-related homeobox (WOX) proteins are important regulators of plant development, involved in organ formation, lateral growth, and leaf margin development. Leaf margins or edges can be smooth, serrated/toothed, lobed, or dissected, and this is a distinct morphological trait that varies between plant species. Xu et al. (2025) uncover the function of WOX1 in temporally regulating leaf serration number and size through two known regulators of leaf margin development, CUC3 and BZR1, in Arabidopsis.
